Send items into Pohatu 1 if you can spare your junk for us to transform!

Reading Eggs

www.readingeggs.co.nz
We got our usernames and passwords for Reading Eggs today.  Pohatu 1 Tamariki loved it.  We did one together on the Activboard and some students gave it a go on the lap tops (we only have two lap tops but borrowed a third from Pohatu 2 who were all away skiing).  We have Reading Eggs on trial till the end of this term - that's only 4 weeks!

You can download the 'Reading Eggs' app for free too! Hopefully we can get this app on our class iPads as soon as possible.

When students first log on they can do a 'test'. This test helps select the best learning activity to start them at.  After the test, it's straight into the learning games and earning golden eggs.

Tuesday of Maths Week

The learning about time continues and today we are also working with shapes and colours for maths week.
Today's art choice is to create pictures using the different shapes.

What shapes can you see?

What shapes had Mei used to make her person?

Using hammers and shapes to create pictures on the cork board is lots of fun.
What shapes are being used?

Busy thinking about the shapes we need to make our pictures.

The 'You vs You' word challenge continues...

As students learn the words on their word rings they write their name on the whiteboard to get them checked.  Remember to have your word rings at school so I can give you your new set if you can say the words as soon as you see them!
Well done Amy, you have learned all of your pink words and are now working on your red words!

This Week is Maths Week!

We are doing some daily challenges - daily dollar and survival series.  This is a great week to do some Mathletics and earn a certificate if you have not made it to 1000 points in a week yet!  For one week only we will be printing our certificates to make a 'Mathletics Wall of Fame' in Pohatu 1.
Mateo is working on his 'daily dollar' challenges.  Today's questions were about counting in 2's.

The 'Math Mat' has been very popular.  We are learning about numbers, addition and subtraction.

In this game we are recognising patterns of numbers and adding up the bones to find out who has the most doggy bones to win the game.

Our 'survivor series' questions were about time so some little clocks helped us to practise telling the time, moving the big and little, minutes and hour, hands to make different times.

This is another game to practise matching times of the day.

We can practise our maths skills on Mathletics too.

Linking the cubes and counting how many to say how long our 'snakes' are has been a very popular activity for some Pohatu 1 students.
